1. A series-parallel circuit consists of five resistors. R1 = 10  and is in series with two parallel branches of two resistors each. The first parallel branch has two resistors in series, R2 = 10  and R3 = 15 . The second parallel branch also has two resistors in series, R4 = 27  and R5 = 33 . If a direct current source of 25 VDC is connected to the circuit, what is the value of the voltage drop across R1?

2.A series-parallel circuit consists of five resistors. R1 = 68  and is in series with two parallel branches of two resistors each. The first parallel branch has two resistors in series, R2 = 47  and R3 = 15 . The second parallel branch also has two resistors in series, R4 = 33  and R5 = 22 . If a direct current source of 18 VDC is connected to the circuit, what is the value of total current (IT)?

3.A series-parallel circuit consists of five resistors. R1 = 10  and is in series with two parallel branches of two resistors each. The first parallel branch has two resistors in series, R2 = 10  and R3 = 15 . The second parallel branch also has two resistors in series, R4 = 27  and R5 = 33 . If a direct current source of 25 VDC is connected to the circuit, what is the value of current flowing through R1?

Thanks D

  1. Here are the answers.  I will leave it to you to draw the circuits and verify the calculations.

    1.  V of R1 = 9.04 Volts DC

    2.  I total = 185.29 miliamps

    3.  I of R1 =  904.26 miliamps

  2. I think you need to go back to your class book for this subject, and go over series and parallel circuits again. While you are at it, refresh yourself on current through a series circuit, as well as how to find a voltage drop across a specific device using resistance of the device and current. These 3 circuits are basic circuits. If you can't figure these out, then find another major that doesn't take you through something this basic, that leaves you searching for help.

I'll relent this much, get a battery, 3 9 volt batteries clipped together will do, a pack of clip leads from Radio Shack, and the resistors of the values you have named. You'll also need a volt meter with a current (amps) scale. Build the circuits, and answer the questions for yourself. If you can't do the math, then put the circuit together, and figure it out from there.
