I need to file as independent next year or I can't go to school!

How can i file as independent on my taxes next year? my parents give me no money...I've been working for the last three years, and starting this last january i was paying rent. if i have to go off of my parent's income next year, i won't be able to go to school. what can i do!?

Your tax-filing status has absolutely nothing to do with your ability, or lack of it, to afford the things you want in life.  If your parents won't pay for your education, work for it.

In order to FILE as an independent, you have to BE independent.  If you are living at home still, and your parents are proviiding over half of your SUPPORT even if they don't give you money, then they can most likely still claim you.

If sounds like what you are really saying is that you won't be able to get as much financial aid.  Then you'll need to pay for school yourself - lots of people do.
