I need to find a good record company!

I love to sing and people have told me I'm really good at it! When I was in 7th grade I had a solo in our concert and we sang My Heart Will Go On from titanic! I really want to make a career out of my singing and maybe even be on broadway! I really need to know what to do so I can accomplish my dream! Please HELP!

Kudos for realizing your dreams early. So you sang a cover of Celine Dion...and you are interested in Broadway...so have hundreds of young women across America...Diana DeGarmo and Katherine McPhee were both "theatre girls" and released music with limited results...not exactly the voice mainstream record companies are clamoring over at the moment.

Now that we got that out of the way, may I suggest trying to audition for shows first? Once you have established yourself as a performer, then the record companies will come calling. Pick up backstage magazine for auditions.

Yes audition for shows, try to perform live as much as you can that way theres an opportunity for talent scouts to see you singing. Take advantage of the internet as much as you can also for self-promotion. For example if you could manage to record yourself with a simple microphone setup and maybe a friend on acoustic guitar you could set up a small Myspace.com page to help promote your music. This way you can add people from record labels who may be interested in what you have to sing. Through myspace you could also build up a small following of fans. Another good medium for advertising is actually youtube as you can add users of that should they like what they hear. Another way is to send demos of your recorded voice to record labels.
