  1. I usually get my reeds on-line at Woodwind and Brasswind.com.

Since you are a beginner, you can stick to the cheapies like Rico, and I recommend starting with a 2 or 2.5 reed strength.  You can buy them in your local music shop for around $25 for a box of ten, or buy them on-line- $12 for a box of ten.

Here are the Rico reeds (make sure you get them for Bb Clarinet and NOT alto clarinet because then they won't fit!):

As you progress in your playing and start playing out your reeds (instead of breaking them), you may want to get reeds made from a better quality cane... in about 2 years, try Vandoren... they sell for $45 - $50 for a pack of ten, or on-line for $28, 10 pack.

I usually don't recommend buying instruments on-line, but with reeds, no problem.  Just make sure you go to a trusted site that offers warranties, customer service numbers (that work!), and ships for very cheap or free...

Hope this helped, and have fun! :)

  2. well, reeds are $25 for a box of ten. I don't think you can get them online or anything, so you'll just have to pay that price.
