  1. You may not find your answer on Electoral Rolls, whether online or at local council offices. Due to the Data Protection Act, people can now opt to have their details left off the public domain, so any Electoral Roll you can find will not be complete. That's why it's unlikely you will now find any Electoral Roll in a library anymore.

Censuses are kept under wraps for 100 years. The next one, for 1911, will be released in January 2012.

Have you tried the Salvation Army? They have a brilliant tracing service, and do not charge, although I'm sure would appreciate a donation to help cover their expenses.

  2. do they charge in the library for electoral roles .

  3. There are quite a few people with a copy of the Electoral Roll who do free searches as a hobby, on Friends Reunited (a totally free site now).

They couldn't even offer to help you on YA because that is an offence known as "soliciting" since you don't allow e-mails.

  4. Free.  That word again.  It gets everywhere. (shudder)

I totally agree with steffi by the way. Everything that I would suggest - by far the best answer.  Its a thumbs up from me.

  5. try www.192.com

there's so far you can get for free.

  6. See if these will  help you:

    www.cyndislist.com/uksites.htm

    www.familysearch.org

    www.worldgenweb.org

You could always google "free uk genealogy".  I have found several good website that way.

    Good luck!!

  7. well if you like then I'd help you search your family tree as my ability allows me to trace
