hubby started a year ago but never has time to finish. I'm worried about cutting them and how thick to put the gluey stuff on. and does the glue go on the wall or the tile.

  1. Tiling takes a while to become good at but as long as you have a moderate DIY ability i don't see why not.

Make sure you apply an even amount of tile adhesive as well as using spacers. (Known some people use cardboard; not wise)

Once thats done apply the grout into all of the spaces and wipe the excess from the tiles with a damp cloth.

If you are uneasy about using the tile cutter perhaps by some cheap tiles and get practicing to build up your confidence.

    Good luck with it.

  2. YOU CAN DO IT but if might take you a little longer ...good luck

i bet you do a better job than your hubby....

if at first you dont succeed try and try again

  3. Hi Chelle

Kitchen splashbacks are normally only about 50 cms high so there is not normally much square meterage all together.. but there will also be cut outs required for the electrics etc. which means you would need a machine cutter / tools etc which would be an additional cost for you to buy & you may never use them again.

For these reasons I would recommend that you get a tiler in to do it, as they will have all the necessary tools etc. & you will get a good finish quickly.

If you get stuck let me know.

  4. see below, use google (how to tile), its quicker.

  5. Get a builder to do it for you instead then babe.

  6. typical men telling a woman they cant do it, you can do it, when applying the grout, just make sure its enough so that the tile doesnt pertrude out more than the others (use spacers) i usually put it on the wall and the tile.

  7. don't listen to the sexists. As long as you use spacers and a level you can't go far wrong. Get hubby to give you a lesson first. You put the glue on the floor or wall first. Praps there is a u tube diy video

  8. You go for it Chell, you will find putting the adhesive on the tiles easier as a beginner, all you have to do is keep them level and spaced evenly, now go for it girl, good luck.

  9. It is relatively easy with a bit of patience.

Firstly, although I have tiled several kitchens and bathrooms, I always put the adhesive on the tiles, it actually makes no difference to the end result, it's more time consuming this way, but if you make a mistake it's easier to put it right, if you've put it on the wall it could start setting before your ready.

Profesional tilers put the adhesive on the wall , but only because it's quicker and they know what they are doing.

You can buy a good tile cutter from any DIY store for about £10-£15.

The next most important (essential) thing is a good quality, long spirit level at least 2 feet long preferably three, then using the correct tile spacers, with a bit of patinence it's as easy as leggo

  10. lol....you cannot do it yourself..you gotta get someone to it for you..a professional!

  11. just go to bq.in the tileing section pick up an adhesive applicator(it looks like a large credit card with small squares cut out),

and pick up spacers(little white x's)

the applicator will make sure that only the correct amount of adhesive goes on,and the spacers make the tiles evenly spaced.

hey,of course you can do it!!!you can do whatever you set your mind too!!
