I need to fix my 1989 Chevy S10 4X4 4.3L Automatic?

Question

It smoke on and off white smoke,I checked the dip stick and it had 1 quart of oil too many.There is no knock in the engine it sounds great.

Also does anyone have a vacuum hose diagram for this model.PLEASE HELP.

probably the valve guides are leaking,common chevy problem.especially when you first start up

what color is the oil? if the oil has a white color to it, it more than likely has water/antifreeze mixed in with the oil. this would account for the 1 qt. to much oil. combined with what you indicate as white smoke from the exhaust  I would say that one of two things are the problem.

1 the intake manifold gasket is leaking causing water/antifreeze to leak into the crank case and also to be burned when the engine is running. ( this is not uncommon in a 4.3L

2 least likely sense you didn't say the engine over heats is a bad head gasket

You could have a seeping head gasket, or a small crack in a cylinder head. White smoke is a sign of water or anti-freeze getting into the combustion chambers and burning with the fuel. Check your coolant lever, and have it checked for a head gasket or cylinder head crack.
