  1. For boarding school, the vast majority of the scholarships come from the schools themselves. You apply to the individual schools and if they want you they will offer you a scholarship, usually based on your parent's income. there are a few scholarships based on your academic merit.

Go the the website boardingschoolreview.com. Look at the schools you are interested in and note what percentage of their students receive aid. This will help you decide where to apply.

In general, the schools that have a lot of money to give are the very top schools like Andover and Saint Paul's School. They have huge endowments and lots of money to give to attract the students they want on campus. For these schools you need very, very good grades and scores.

In general, you need to apply to schools where your grades and scores are well above their averages for them to give you money. Good luck!

  2. Ask and ye shall receive (well, we hope, anyway..)

I've attached a couple of sites with information about scholarships available to students of secondary private schools, whether boarding schools or not.

Keep in mind that there just aren't many (any?) national programs to support boarding school education. Most of the scholarship money for private secondary schools comes from the schools themselves. These schools hope that well-to-do alumni of the program will offer the kinds of financial assistance that will allow future generations of promising young students to attend - and some wealthy grads leave educational scholarship bequests in their wills.

As you'll see when you look over these lists, most of the scholarships are state-specific - for example, there is a scholarship for students from Baltimore County, Maryland.

Unfortunately, boarding school is, and always has been, a "privilege" for the wealthy. These schools make some efforts to encourage diversity by offering limited financial assistance to promising non-wealthy applicants, but these schools are still mostly filled with the sons and daughters of wealthy alumni.

I hope this information proves useful to you. Good luck!
