I need to get 12v DC power down to 6v DC power. What do I need?

All you need to do is to feed the 12VDC to a 7806T IC voltage regulator.  Place a 100mfd across the regulator input and a .1 mfd at the output.  See website below.  You can get 1amp without heatsink and 1.5 amps with a heatsink.

You need a 12 volt to 6 volt reducer.  See link.  Pay attention to the wattage, you want one with enough capacity to run the device you have.
