  1. Get over to Social Security and get enrolled for Part A and B ($96.40 month).  You can get a Medicare Advantage Plan for little or zero premium from one of many companies.  Check at www.medicare.gov. for everything you need to know.  You will be covered starting April 1.

If you are in Florida, contact me.

  2. No, you can't apply on-line, you'll need to go through the social security office.

At 69 you should have had Part A since you turned 65. You will be applying for Part B and will have to pay the premium. It usually takes social security a couple of months to get the application through their system. Part B only becomes effective on the first of the month.

After you get Part B you can you can get a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan to help you with the costs that Medicare doesn't pay. If you are on Part A you can get a Part D prescription drug plan immediately and it'll become effective the first of the following month.

You'll need to sit down with an independent agent that works in the senior market because the Medicare health plans can be very confusing. If you get the wrong plan you could end up paying hundreds if not thousands of dollars more than you need to. You could also find yourself locked out of a plan until next year if you don't do this right.

  3. Unless you are a senior citizen you CAN NOT get Medicare insurance.  It is only for the elderly.  Now, if you mean MEDICAID insurance, which is insurance for the low income, I have to tell you that there is NO WAY to get it fast!  Income and asset verifications have to be done because it's a needs-based program, meaning if you have assets and/or cash (either on hand, in a financial institution, or in other financial devices) you will have to spend it until you get to the income levels that will allow you to be part of the program.  Generally, states have 45 days in which to verify all the paperwork you have to turn in after you've applied for the insurance coverage, once they are done they will inform you whether or not you are eligible for it.  A LOT of people who apply are turned down -- it's not a sure thing!

  4. Turn 65 and apply at the social security office.
