  1. Off ice, hold on to the back of a chair, or anything like the back of a couch or something, Go into your spiral position and hold it for as long as you can. Do the same on the other leg. you WILL be sore tomorrow if you do it right. Also just make sure your back is arched and your arms are not clinging to your sides, think about squeezing your shoulder blades together. This really helps for a great spiral.

  2. Practice the doing the splits and then have a friend or a parent push your leg up in a spiral position. Or use a chair or a couch to hold onto for balance.

  3. put some oomff into it lol.... it might work...

  4. i am a figure skater. i find it best if i gain a little speed then slightly widen my arms and legs then as i turn i bring them in, you will find it keeps you spinning for longer and alot faster :)

  5. My biggest piece of advice is STRETCH! Many people can't do a great spiral because they aren't flexible. You will see a major difference if you take 10-20 minutes out of your day to stretch. Good luck!

  6. You just need to stretch and practice them off ice lots. Flexibility isn't something that just comes to you, you have to work at it. Stretch two times a day and you'll find your flexibility will increase.

If you're already flexible and just need help with your technique then here's what you do. Start with pulling your free leg into the air, then lower your upper body and keep your arms out to the side to help you with balance and direction. Then straighten both your free leg and skating leg.

It just takes practice. Keep stretching and keep trying them on and OFF ice and you'll start to improve.
