so.. if you're a full time member of the army.. do you live in barracks.. even if you have family? like a full on girlfriend on the verge of marriage?

how do you get told you're supposed to be going to go on a 6 month tour in Iraq? is it letter.. phone call.. called to office..

I'm writing a book and this subject comes into it.. and can any soldiers tell me what it's like in Iraq if it's not classified information?

will someone explain to me how it works? please? I'm confused..

  1. you live in the barracks until you can present your unit with a marriage certificate or reach a high enough rank in order to be allowed to live off base.

As for iraq you get orders - usually the whole unit does

SORRY i do not know about the british army - i thought you were talking about the us army so i dunno if its correct

  2. if your active army you live in the barracks until you are e-5 or e-6 depending on available housing, If you are married it doesn't matter what your rank is you will get Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) which covers the costs of an off post apt if no housing is available on post.  As far as deployments, you would normaly be told in formations as the whole unit deploys together.

  3. Go to your local army base

  4. Army is doing 12 month deployments.
