  1. Of course it would vary by landlord, but I have never heard of a landlord calling a prospective or current  tenant's employer.  You will need to fill out a rental application. Most landlords will want to know your rental history. Where else have you lived/rented? Where you a good/quiet tenant? Did you pay your rent on time? Any evictions? Thoses kinds of questions. Nowadays, landlords are also checking credit history and performing criminal background checks. Be prepared for that.

    As long as you have a job, decent credit, fair rental history, and a clean background---you should be fine. I recommend you check Craigslist for an apartment if you need it fast.

  2. Just know your social security number, your monthly income, your work phone number and your house information.  Have the address of your closest relative handy.  They will ask for this in the application.  Fill it out, then they will do a background check for criminal activity then a credit check just to see if you paid anything late.  They want to know you'll be able to pay rent on time.  After that, if they accept you, you sign a lease.  Be sure to be clear on what is in the lease, take your time reading it.  Then after that's done, you move in.

  3. it depends on what kind of apartment it is. ususually if you have the first month and deposit its ok, you only have to fill out an application. if its a popular apartment building then you may be put on the waiting list. some landlords check  your credit history and your criminal history, because they dont want any problems.

    hoped i helped. <--nikki-->

  4. you have to fill out an application which typically takes an application fee.

    The application will ask for a couple years rental history, typically a minimum income, personal references and other personal information.

    They do not call the employer in front of you - they do it at their own convenience.

  5. go to apartments.com and you can check on there. Check the papers too and signs in front of building renting.

    As far as what you may need, it varies so call and check. They should have an the paperwork or fills you need to fill out for them . If anything, get a parent or someone that rents to go with you and help you out.
