  1. It depends on a lot of factors.  Size of business, how many users, domestic, international, etc.  Go to this site; it should be helpful in answering your questions.  They have a bunch of articles and guides that should point you in the write direction.

    Good luck.

  2. The Philips voip 841 is an excellent phone and doesn't have to be connected to a computer to run. It's got it's own Skype software installed in the phone itself. I've also used a GE model number FS 21878GE-A. The GE has to connect to a computer to run Skype but is also an excellent phone. Both are dual line phones (can be used with Skype or a landline).

  3. If you will be spending a lot of time on the phone, then you will best served using an Internet VoIP service that integrates with a Soft-Phone.  By using a Soft-Phone, you can easily wear a USB headset and talk and type on your computer.... hands-free.

You could use soft-phones from Skype, Gizmo5, Efonica to make your calls with, at very low rates.  Each of these services have their own proprietary soft-phones that are preconfigured for their proprietary VoIP services.

But, if you get a "user-configurable" SIP soft-phone, then you configure just the one soft-phone for use with many different SIP VoIP services that allow BYOD (bring your own device).

One well-known free configurable soft-phone is X-Lite from Counterpath.  But, personally, I have not had the best results with it.

I prefer to use the "WengoPhone" from "OpenWengo.org".  It is free, open source, and user configurable with many different SIP compatible VoIP services.  It works really well, from my experience.

I use it configured with my favourite BYOD VoIP services such as CallCentric, InPhonex, Les.net, Voip.ms, IdeaSip, SipPhone.  All these services are pay-as-you-go.... no contracts, no minimums, no strings...
