I need to get copies of where my tax refund went?

My taxes have been offset for child support payments. I have calculated that I am finished paying the debt of arrears and I have called the Florida disbursement unit and they tell me it has been paid in full. The problem is that the child support agency keeps offsetting my taxes and say I still owe $5,000. I called the IRS and they say they can't give me any info regarding offsets for the past 4 years. I JUST NEED PROOF of my tax refunds being sent to my X for 4 years!! Does anyone know who I am supposed to get that from???? SO CONFUSED!

  1. First, before your taxes can be offset or garnished the State of Florida needs to get authorization which appears they have. Your next step is get with the state and a case worker to followup on the state actions, and also make sure they withdrew the order to collect. This is often not done and the funds are collected and never applied to your account properly.

The IRS does have to answer but not on the phone. You will need to find the correct forms to file to get the answer. Current year the IRS has an online tool, which might help direct you to finding where other funds are sent in prior years.

    Good Luck

  2. A CPA should be able to get this info for you.

  3. Contact the FMS, Financial Management Service.  They are the department that actually offsets your tax return.  Here is the website, http://www.fms.treas.gov. or call 800-304-3107.
