Any mode of transport or combination of modes of transport (Except driving myself here). Is there an online route planner that will pick and mix appropriate modes of transport (i.e. TGV to Paris then fly to Hamburg)? There are obviously lots of 'flight only' or 'train only' journey planners but I can't seem to find a 'whatever combination is best planner'. Any ideas people?

  1. What are your criteria for "best"? Fastest, cheapest, fewest connections, something else? Is there a particular departure or arrival time you need to make? You need to do this kind of research manually using the individual sites and combining the results and it would help to have more information.

You can get to Marseille Provence Aeroport in 15 minutes on the bus from Aix-en-Provence, but there are no direct flights. The cheapest connection is through Brussels, but there's a long layover. The cheapest flight costs are about $357.

EasyJet is the best option from Paris - the flight is at 12:45 pm arriving at Hamburg at 2:20 pm for 63.49 euro. http://www.easyjet.com/en/book/index.asp The TGV to Paris CDG takes a little more than 3 and a half hr. There's a direct train from Aix-en-Provence at 7:25 am that  arrives at the airport at 11 am. There's also a train at 5:42 am that arrives at the airport at 9:30 am with a change in Avignon. http://www.sncf.com/en_EN/flash/ The train reservation site is down right now, so I couldn't proce that. You need to enter Aix-en-Provence TGV for the starting point and Aeroport CDG 2 TGV for the airport stop on the French version of the site.

Air Berlin has a number of cheap flights from Paris Orly ($142 to $231), but all require a plane change. The best connection is an 8:30 am flight through Dusseldorf that gets you to Hamburg at 1:30 am ($158).

This is a useful site for locating budget airlines flying into, out-of, or between cities especially here in Europe. It will help you at least to identify some possibilities for the possibilities for getting to Hamburg and then you can look at other options like train or bus from Aix-en- Provence to there.
