  1. I think you mean Rhode Island. You can take the amtrak train but bus is much cheaper. The Greyhound or Peter Pan bus from port authority in NYC goes to RI. It will cost btw $30 and $40 one way. Train is around $70 to Providence depending on time of day.

  2. My friend, if you want to get to Rhode Island on the cheap you can always take Metro-North's New Haven Line from Grand Central to New Haven. Once in New Haven, you either take the Greyhound or Amtrak to your final destination in Rhode Island.

A one way off-peak ticket on the New Haven Line will cost $14. A one way ticket on Amtrak or Greyhound will vary depending on distance.

  3. Do you mean Rhode Island?

If so, go to the Port Authority Bus Terminal on 40th St and Eighth Avenue. From there you can take a Peter Pan bus to the terminal in Providence, RI for about $64 round trip.

  4. Yes.  You can take Amtrak from Penn Station to Providence, RI, or you can get the Peter Pan bus from the Port Authority.  My son went to college in RI for four years and always took public transportation to get home for breaks and holidays.
