I have a tonsil that is extra huge. I was that way when I was born. I am 35 years old now. I get those "tonsil stone" in it almost daily. And It has a hole in it. My MD doctor even mentioned to me if I thought of getting it out one time. What do you think? Thanks. :)

  2. be sure to check with your insurance FIRST - If your insurance requires a referral or precertification, be sure  this happens first. It sounds like your primary is already aware ... so check your insurance policy out and then call an ENT to make an appointment.

  3. You may need a referral from your primary care doc to a ENT surgeon.  Ask your insurance.

Getting rid of the enlarged tonsil, if it makes you ill, can only be for the best.

It is tougher on an adult to recover from a tonsillectomy, usually about two weeks or so.  Kids heal more quickly than adults.  You will be given pain meds, information about what to eat and what not to eat, such as not eating anything red post op.  Just take your pain meds round the clock to keep the pain under control, eat a lot of popsicles, and if you have any questions- ask your doctor.

Remember, Bunny, this is mostly a forum of layman, not doctors on tap....always take a list of questions with you when you go to the doctor. If the doc has mentioned removal before, you very likely have enough documentation for the insurance company to cover the procedure without ddifficulty
