I have less than two months left and I can't do one single pull up. How can I get used to doing pull-ups in time so that bootcamp can be easier on me. I leave Sept. 22nd or Sept. 21st technically...so I have very little time left. I have been trying to get used to do doing them but I can't get used to them since I can't even do one. What are some workouts and machines that I should do so I can be able to do at least 4 before I go to bootcamp?

  1. The one answer that you should get help from your recruiter is very good.  That's the way to go.  I don't know if you might be overweight, but that may be the problem.  If so diet and exercise are the way to go and include jogging with your exercise program.

    Good luck

    thanks

  2. Your recruiter should be helping you get this done. He should be working with you at least 1 hour a day. Talk to him, plus I am sure he could use the work out too. It is hard to get PT in while on that duty.

  3. once you pass the physical test. You dont have to have alot of strengh. U just have to have determination. Start with pushups.

  4. Sounds like you are in very bad shape.  7 weeks?  Steroids?  Seriously though, I'm guessing you are also heavy.

    1. Loose weight (run run run several miles every day).  Limit your intake (eat protein).  Imagine if you were about 45 pounds lighter, you'd be able to easily do pull ups.  Your going to run your butt off anyway when you get in.  You might as well train for that now too!  Don't worry about the weight...you'll end up bulking up once you get in to the mess hall.

    2. Do forced pull ups with a friend.  Have the friend grab your legs and lift you just enough so that you can accomplish at least the muscle memory of doing actual pull ups.  Fatigue your muscles into submission until you could not do another force pull up with the help of your assistant.  Eventually, you will be doing pull ups on your own and then when you can't...keep going with your friends help.

Pull ups have a lot to do with your back and arms.  Back do rows (a bar with weight, standing streight and the pull the bar to your chin with both hands).  Rows are great for your back.  Curls for your arms biceps and do tricep work.  Your back and arms do not heal real quick, but if you do this you will at least increase your ability to do pull ups

  5. if you have access to a lat machine (at a local gym) do pull downs with palms facing you and hand shoulder with apart. start with a weight that you can pull down 10-12 times and repeat 3 times. 100-125lbs less if necessary. do that every other day and you should gain 1 pull up a week. i am speaking from experience. i started only doing 3 and in 2 months i was doing 11 and when i got out of bootcamp i was doing 17. you do realize you are joining the most elite fighting force in the world. eat right, run, drink water, and change your socks.

  6. I had trouble doing them when I was in  basic. Do a lot of push ups that helped me.

  7. Hire a personal trainer, do lots of push ups, and just keep on doing as many pull ups as you can, even if that means 1 every hour.

  8. O don't worry, they'll whip ya into shape right quick Private Pyle.  Semper Fi!

  9. You're not alone, a lot of people can't do pullups. Usually the lightweights are the only ones who can do pullups before bct/bootcamp.

  10. Get off the computer and hang from a bar and keep practicing..

There is no magic solution..You need to paratice over and over and over..

  11. Better get started then...  There really is no other way to improve the way you do something beyond doing it.
