I need to get rid of my Norton security on my PC

As it is about to expire I want to change to AVG Security. Can I just delete Norton from the list and will that make it go away. Do I delete it before I install AVG

Programs like Norton can be hard to remove fully. First use add and remove programs in the control panel.

Then remove the program file. [Start, my computer, local disc C, open program files, right click Norton/Symantec and delete].

Last of all delete its registry keys. [Start, run, type in "regedit", open, hold CTRL and press F. When a small window appears, type in Norton then right click and delete anything that appears. Also type in Symantec and do the same with that.

Most anti-virus programs will not function properly until you have completely removed any traces of the previous one.

Also when you are asked to save or run the new program, choose save to your desktop and do this before you remove Norton. After you get rid of Norton, then install the program. This insures you don't catch a virus while using the internet, keeping your computer safe and sound

Make sure you use the Norton Removal Tool, otherwise you might find that norton doesn't totally uninstall. Other people have suggested to use Add/Remove to get rid of it, but it still leaves various components behind (which continue to run and take up system resources) plus a lot of it is left behind in the registry. All these things left behind can cause problems at later dates especially when other antivirus and firewall software is installed, ive seen people lose internet connectivity because of it, so use the tool!

Yes delete Norton before you install AVG otherwise they will fight each other. Download Spybot as well to clear up your cookies..all free...

i had it on trial for free for 30 days and when it was up it stopped my computer doing anything because i didnt subscribe to them had to bring to get cleaned in shop

Removing Norton in Add/Remove program does'nt delete all in the registry. Norton has a free software called Norton removal tool which will delete every file it has on your PC.

Yeah your gonna want to delete norton first, and as for it just going away it depends, cause sometimes norton would be a pain to delete cause it won't fully delete, so you might want to download a removal software, you can check www.majorgeek.com for you needed software IF norton gives you any problem in deleting its files, hope that helps take it easy
