I love him and all, but apparently I can't care for too, and this one is too much work. The major prob is there are no no-kill shelters in the area? what do I do? he needs to be gone asap, he is a threat to my baby.

  1. First of all keep them separated until you work it out.  Don't give up on your dog.  Sounds like he just needs training & i mean by you.  If your home

all day anyway why not care for both of your babies?  I have a dog, 3cats & a 4 foot iguana.

With time & training they all get along fine.  The iguana i let out of her enclosure 1-2 times a day & she can walk right by them all without anybody getting hurt.

  2. Rescue groups.

What makes him a threat to your child?

ADD> Thats no reason to get rid of him. That can be cured with basic training. PLEASE don't get rid of your dog. I too have an excitable dog, and I began watching my niece (who is now 3 months old, at the time she was one month old) and it became an ultimate concern, but with a little more basic control gained over him, he soon settled down.

The main problem is that your dog doesn't KNOW the baby. It doesn't know how to behave when you have the child. If he comes around, I assume you immediately jerk the child up and keep the dog away from it, which only increases his desire to see the baby. And if you yell at him for being around the baby, it excites him further.

Talk calmly to your dog when you have the child, have your friend or husband have the dog on a lead. Have him sit, every time he sits, let him see the baby (but at a safe distance). If he stays sitting, give him another treat. If he stands up, you take the baby away. Do this again and again and again until he understands that to see the baby, he has to sit and remain sitting.

Labs are notoriously excellent with children, so his excitability in combination with the tail isn't a serious issue that means you need to get rid of him.

NEVER leave the child on the floor in the room with the dog. Thats a given, no matter how well trained my dogs are (and they are VERY well trained) I don't allow Gwen to stay in the same room unsupervised.

  3. email me. I have a huge farm and looking for a dog to guard it. What breed and age..

  4. It's hard to answer your question.  How is he a threat to your baby?  Has he been aggressive to you or your baby?

Most no-kill shelters won't take a dog with human aggression problems.  Ours won't.

You can try to rehome him through craislist or other venues, but you need to disclose any aggression problems.  You may find it difficult to find someone who is willing to take on a dog with aggression issues.

I could help you more if I understood exactly what your dog is doing.

  5. Take it to your local shelter. They will gladly take it off your hands. You just have to sign him off.

    Advice:

Take it to no kill shelter!

  6. craigslist.org

  7. Well if he has an aggression problem, then you need to be honest when finding him a home.  Put an ad in the paper, usually if you are giving your dog away free they do not charge. At least that is how it is in my paper.  Put ads up at Petco and any other animal place.  You might even ask your vet if you can put an ad up there.

  8. well first if you know somebody who wants a dog give it to them or hang up signs................or just stop being stoborn and give the dog a chance

  9. I read your previous questions, and the dog you want to "get rid of" is a labrador?  And the reason you want to get rid of him is because his tail hits your baby in the face?

Your previous question I see was asking how you could cut part of his tail off so it wouldn't hit the baby in the face.

There must be a humane society or spca in your state, and almost every state has a Labrador rescue.  Please call them ASAP, as your dog certainly needs to find a good home.

If you can't train and work with your dog, and keep him and your baby separated, then another home might be best.    But please don't ever consider cutting your dog's tail off yourself at home.    When a vet amputates a dog's tail for medical reasons, the dog must be completely anesthetized--this would be horribly painful for the dog, and he could bleed to death.   This would be like cutting off your own finger.   Your "basic first aid" training in no way qualifies you to do this.

ADD:  and as far as emailing anyone that "has a large farm"---you could easily be putting your poor dog in the hands of someone who'd use him as a bait dog for dog fights, or sell him to a lab for experimentation.   Find a reputable rescue.

  10. If you have access to a computer use Petfinder.com or craigslist.org to post an ad, usually the response is quick. Many people are looking for dogs and will turn to the internet as a source. If you do not have access to a computer, look up a local Humane Society. There is one in every county, and they will gladly take your animal.

  11. If you can afford to keep him, get a trainer to correct this. Otherwise Go to www.petfinder.com, find a rescue near you and drop them an email

  12. you never said why he is a threat to your baby.

EDIT: that's no reason to get rid of him, it's the chickens way out! your dog was there first. so have him trained to be around children. oh and the tail whipping thing, keep your baby high enough to where his tail won't hit the baby in the face. all of this is common sense, but i'm assuming you have none.

  13. You really are a busy little troll.  I don't know where you find so much time to be on Y!A with a new baby and still at school.

  14. YOU ARE A TROLL!

How the h**l does a labrador tail hurt your baby?
