I need to go to Cumbria from Heathrow Airport. please give me directions?

By road.

Pick up the M4 just north of the airport heading west (away from London). Continue towards Slough till you reach the junction with the M25. Take the M25 clockwise for just 1 junction and join the M40 towards Oxford. Pass Oxford and continue towards Birmingham.

At M40 Junction 34 take the M42 Northbound (Birmingham Ring Road) At Junction 7 join the M6 Continue on the M6 towards Stoke on Trent (This avoids paying the toll on the New M6(Toll) road.

Continue on the M6, this will take you all the way to Carlisle which is the largest town in Cumbria

Total is over 300 miles though.

Personally I would use a flight to Manchester or Prestwick and save a long drive

Sure you could take the underground into London and get a train to from Euston Station to Carlisle via Manchester. Not a cheap option though.

Continuing on from Ian M, if you do get a train, you should make an advance booking, as it is significantly cheaper to do this. Leave yourself plenty of time to get from the airport to Euston station though!
