I have an 18 month old and a 7 yr old. I want to stay for about 2 months. How much would a visa for 3 for two months cost and how long does it take before you get it in the mail? What do I need as proof?

  1. If you are an American citizen, you do not need visas to come to Mexico.  You will get a tourist cards at the border or on the plane.  It is good for up to 180 days.  You do notneed passports to travel by LAND yet...they will be needed for land travel by June 2009. You DO need them if you FLY.  See 1st site below.   If the childrens other parent is not going to be with you, you must have a leter of permission from that person , signed and notarized, giving you permission to take the children out of the U.S. and into Mexico.  This is Mexican law. Sometimes the border guard does not ask to see it, other times they do...so you need it.  See 2nd site below and read the section on MINORS under Entry Requirements.   Are you planning to drive, or take the bus?  If so, and you need more info about either, please email me and I can help you.

  2. You do not need to get a visa to travel to Mexico for only three months. I live in Aquismon San Luis Potosi. All you need his your passport, each time I enter the country they automatically give me a tourist card for 180 days. Each card cost 320 pesos (around 31 American dollars). It is not hard to get into Mexico, there is more security coming back than there is going. The only advice I can give you is to take the least amount of luggage as possible, and do not take any plastic bags. The less you tell the immigration officer the better. Be quick and short with your answers. If you try to explain to much then they get curious. If you have any more questions then you can email me at familiadegarcia@yahoo.com. I am heading back home to Mexico in a few more months, no later than July. Good luck, and have a blast, San Luis Potosi is my favorite place in all of Mexico. I have not heard of Ebano though, how far is it from San Luis, San Luis Potosi?
