  1. Step 1: From Bridgeport Station to Grand Central via New Haven Line, purchase ticket from Metro-North TVM/Office for peak $15.50/off-peak $11.75 on New Haven Line.

Step 2: At Grand Central, take subway 42nd St Shuttle or Times Sq-bound (7) train to Times Sq, then transfer to downtown 1/2/3 to 34th St-Penn Station. 32nd St exit (south end) has direct access to New Jersey Transit track waiting area. You may also take M4/Q32 Penn Station from 5th Av/46th, 44th, 41st Sts to last stop, 32nd St/7th Av. Buses $2 in Coins and subways $2 in MetroCard. Buy SingleRide.

Step 3: From New York Penn Station, purchase ticket from TVM or ticket window for $12.50 one way to Trenton Transit Center via Northeast Corridor.

Step 4: Then, from there you must go upstair to New Jersey Transit window upstair to your right (because SEPTA Regional Rail TVM is out of service. Purchase SEPTA ticket there. If you're only going along SEPTA R-7, it's $8 one way.

  2. Check out the bus rates.  Take a bus to the Port Authority Terminal in New York, and pick up a bus there to Philly.

  3. Only thing to add to what Ken K said is that Metro North will bring you to Grand Central and you have to get the NJ Transit out of Penn.

It's a cheap cab ride and a pretty short walk.  Penn is at 7th and 33rd and Grand Central is at Park and 42nd.

  4. no, that's it. Amtrak has a monopoly on intercity trains.

    .

  5. Yes but it will take some doing.

Take Metro North to NYC. Then, NJT to Trenton and finally Septa to Philly.

they are all commuter rail companies so comfort will be lacking, but they are cheaper than Amtrak.
