  1. water ballon fights. you can buy hundreds for just a few bucks.

  2. Food and movies...

  3. Get a looooong smooth plastic tarp and make the sickest slip n slide EVER.

and get a lot of FRUIT PUNCH. YEAA!

  4. Buy a giant pizza. If you have a big TV then just put on a movie and some soda along with the pizza and they'll be fine. Unless you'd like to have a fancier thing. Then I don't know.

  5. This is what I have done with my 3 sons.

A computer LAN party where the kids all bring their computers along and sit up allnight playing their favourite game.  You could also do it with playstation or whatever gaming console you have.  Get some pizza's with those vouchers you get in the mailbox , buy soft drink cans by the carton on special and some chips or snacks and thats all you'll need to occupy the boys!   We have done it with 4-6 friends overnight and its real easy!

  6. We have a park nearby with a bmx track. We just took a gazebo and picnic and told the boys to bring their bikes.

We have also organised a BBQ at the nearest country park where the boys could go cycling around ten miles of woodland, again, with a picnic.

For my son's tenth we let them go canoeing with the local canoe club on a local gravel pit and had a BBQ on the shore. This was via the Scout group of which he is a member. This was also an excuse to get about twenty adults there as well which meant more food and drinks being brought by others thus keeping the cost down. We also ended up with half the adults having a go in the canoes while the boys had some food.

I know we are lucky to have facilities like this nearby, but when we first did these things suddenly everybody else was copying!

It is possible to have a great day without breaking the bank if you are willing the think outside the normal things.

  7. The water balloons and slick tarp sliding sounds like a lot of fun, not to mention the mud they will make and have fun with.  We have also made personal pizzas, I made the crusts, and they put whatever toppings they wanted and they had fun with being creative, not to mention trying to gross each other out, anchovies are fun and a good dare.  A good scary movie adds to the nighttime excitement, you could also get a couple of those little headlamps and let them run around out in the dark with the headlamps on, and play something like hide and go seek, where the seeker has the headlamps on.
