  1. The terms 'x - 5' and 'x + 4' are already the factors of a quadratic expression. If you need to multiply the factors together to get the quadratic expression, follow the FOIL rule: Multiply the firsts, then the outsides, then the insides, and finally the lasts:

    (x - 5) * (x + 4)

    (x * x) + (x * 4) - (5 * x) - (5 * 4)

    or

    x^2 + 4x - 5x - 20

    Combining terms:

    x^2 - x - 20

  2. Remember this: FOIL

    F= front

    O= outer

    I= inner

    L= last

    so for F you would do the 2 front numbers in each () and multiply

    x*x= x squared

    for O you'd do the the 2 numbers on the outside x and 4 and multiply

    Xx4= 4x

    for I you'd take the numbers inside -5 and X and multiply

    -5xX= -5x

    then for L take the last 2 numbers in each () -5 and 4 and multiply

    -5x4= -20

    put them all together in order

    x^2+4x-5x-20 then combine like terms

    x^2-x-20

    that's your answer

    Factoring is like taking a number apart. It means to express a number as the product of its factors. Factors are either composite numbers or prime numbers (except that 0 and 1 are neither prime nor composite).

    go here and try your luck

  4. Heres how I believe you solve this:::

    (x-5) (x+4)

    x (squared) +4x - 5x -20

    x (squared) -x -20

    you multiply the X times the X, then the X times the 4, then the -5 times the X, then the -5 times the 4.

    :)
