  1. Contact the Dept of Labor in your state since the rules vary.

  2. All states labor regulations are different. What state do you work in?

  3. According to some state laws, when one works an 8.5 hour day they are obligated to take at least a 30 min lunch break with two 15 min breaks.  Now, i know that this is true in the state I reside in, but I have now idea if it is that way where you live.  Here, you would need to work 8.5 hours, and your .5 hour is to make up for your lunch break.  I hope I have at least given you an idea.  Most employers have a "labor laws" poster in their office or break room explaining the laws to which you and your employer would need to abide by.  If they don't have it posted, then ask your employer what the company rules are.

  4. All employees should get an hour lunch break for working an 8 hour shift. It is a requirement to take a lunch break and if you opt out of taking one some companies will still take that hour away. Some companies allow breaks also. Talk to your HR personnel and find out what the meal/break policies are. However, I wouldn't recommend you to work an 8 hour shift w/o taking a lunch break
