    defense

    all of the positions

home and away teams, coin flip

    defend

    defer

    kick

    recieve

    field goal

    end zone

    incompletion

    interception......

    more and more.......

  2. Here are some terms and definitions to get you started:

Favorite: As in, "The New England Patriots are the favorite to win the Super Bowl." Has nothing to do with people's feelings--strictly means that more money was bet on New England, or after statistical analysis of the two teams, and they're expected to win.

Running play: When the offensive team tries to move the ball forward with one of its men carrying the ball very carefully.

End zone: The 10-yard area at either end of a football field where touchdowns are scored and players do those funky dances. The entrance to the end zone is called the goal line, and in theory, the goal line extends off the field in both directions for infinity. Nobody knows why it goes to infinity, but announcers love to say that.

Fumble: When a player with butterfingers drops the ball, rendering it up for grabs to whoever can get to it first.

Interception: When a player on the defensive team catches a pass that the opposing team threw--after an interception, the quarterback can usually be seen shaking his head or yelling at his teammates.

Turnover: When one team goofs and loses the ball to the other team, as in a fumble or interception.

Also suggest the school or cheerleaders pitch in and buy a copy of the highly rated:

  3. most important thing for a cheerleader is to:

    1. Know which team you are cheering for.

    2. know when team is on offense. (they have the ball)

    3. Know when team is on D-Fence (defense Blocking the other team from scoring)

    4. learn to scream "Block that Kick"  when other team has made a touch down (6 points) and are trying to get a kick point.

Believe me I have seen cheerleaders; cheer when the other team scores, pick up a large letter D and a wooden fence when their team is on offense, sing "Happy Birthday" to a band member when their team is on offense.

Most of all try to pay attention to what is happening on the field.
