  1. - are found throughout the world,

    - generally in the interiors of the continents

    - north of the tropic of cancer

    - south of the tropic of  capricorn

    - rain usually falls in the late spring and early summer

    - an average of 20 – 35 inches of rainfall a year(508 - 889 mm)

    - amount of rainfall — the height of grasses

    - Canada/US – if lots of rain - prairies (taller grasses),  if lower rain - steppe (short grasses)

    - southern temperate grasslands - closer to the ocean than steppes and prairies –  have mild winters and evenly spread rainfall throughout the year

    - temperature does not affect temperate grasslands – easily below zero temp in winter and high temp in the summer

    - continental type climates with extremes

    - wind affects some steppe areas if farmed

    - strong winds blow loose soil from the ground after plowing -  especially during droughts

    - causes the dust storms - Great Plains of the U.S.

    - strong, cold winds in Argentina's spring and summer months  - called pamperos

    - winter blizzards, called buran, in central Asia

. some winter winds – the Chinook – are warm and melt snow when they reach the western prairies in North America

    - little on the temperate grasslands and pressure - doesn't seem to be a correlation between the two that I could find
