I need to know about web servers and network servers?

If I worked in a server room would there be a possibility of working with web and network servers, or just one of the two servers, depending on which company and size of company. What processes would I do all day at work if I worked in a server room? I'm soon getting my associate degree in Computer web specialty, most of what I use is html. What job that I could get with the degree, would you recommend for a starting position where I would get good experience. I first thought web developing would be a good fit for me, but now I thinking about maybe networking or software programming.

  1. The type of server 'web', 'network' etc depends on the software installed, and... well what it's serving.

  2. Hi,

As one of the other guys already said: they are all servers. It just depends on what they are serving..... So rather than to distinguish between "Network" (do you mean "File-Server"?) and "Web" you are probably better off to make a decision for either Microsoft or Unix (Linux, BSD, Solaris...). Both have their strengths. Microsoft dominates the File-Server world whereas Unix is more common in the web-server sphere.

I think that a good idea is also to dig a bit deeper into network security since this is one of the fastest growing sectors in the networking world.

    Hope that helped,

    Chris
