  1. 1. They cost $20+

    2. You don't need to get another parakeet with it but you'd need to pay it more attention. Parakeets are flock birds...they usually get one mate and stick with him/her forever. If you have only one, it will bond with you much easier... I suggest only one.

    3. You feed him seeds-- but you must supplement with other fresh foods which they won't like but you have to "train" it to like it--slowly introduce it into its diet. Even though most places say it's okay for just seeds, you should give it fresh foods and feed it pellets instead of seeds which are healthier-- they need the nutrition.

    4. You should buy a decent sized cage for one-- make sure it can fly around a bit and its head and tail don't touch the top and bottom and it is big enough for them to flap around. Go to Petsmart or Petco they usually cost $25+...or it might be cheaper to go to a smaller, home-owned pet shop.

    5. You should get one toy every so often. Parakeets are very, very active creatures and you have to keep it entertained. When it gets bored it might start to stress out and pluck feathers.

    6. No idea how much vets cost-- depends on your vet.

    7. Overall depends on how much you are willing to do for the parakeet.

    8. Food, depends. I fed mine spinach and fruit, some seeds, and lots of pellets.

    9. Feed once a day or change food once a day. You should train him to like water so he may start bathing with no problem. Play with them a lot...everyday or every other day. You should just clip it's wings and YOU MUST TAME HIM so he will like you and stay around you. He can just wander around the room, around your desk while you work.

    10. Put the cage somewhere a few feet off the ground. Maybe at least so he is sitting at your eye level-- higher the better but it'll just be easier to maintain and you don't have to move the cage around a lot. Yes, cover at night.

    11. Clean the cage once a week or so.

    12. They live about 10 - 15 years if you take care of them very well..usually less though.

    13. You don't necessarily have to get an extra cage if he is tame or his wings are clipped. Different people say different things about wing clipping.

    14. No, if you entertain him properly. If you cannot you should just give him another friend but they will ignore you and it is VERY VERY hard to tame them.

    15. uhmmm, not sure? Try searching parakeet care online and join a parakeet forum...yeah it's nerdy but they give you a lot of help.

  2. 1. probably around 20.00+ They are quite expensive

    2. Well, if you play with it a lot and put on some quiet music, or put it near the TV no.. But occasionally it will get bored, get toys. But never a mirror

    3. the cage needs to be o.k sized. and it will cost a lot.. lol

    4. Toys, you need around 1-2 and switch them around every week. or so so she doesn't get bored

    5. A lot.. vets tend to cost a lot.. monthly or something i enver got one.. though

    6. probably a lot.. 100+ with vet :D?

    7. food depends, millets, food, water stuff cost like only al ittle no biggie..

    8. Bathing things, you don't need to "bathe" it you can just spray it with mist. Don't let it be afraid of water, it should like the water. So don't spray to hard, make it gentle. Play, the most you can. When you feed them, just put around 1-3 table sppoon, depending on how active your birds are. Then they eat 2 times a day. Morning and night. So just eery day change them. Sometiems they will only pick out there fav. seeds so just wait until the next day. Also, even though it looks like the food it not gone it might be.. so check carefully.

    9. Yes you cover it and you could put the cage in your room, in living room

Somehwere where it is quite active.. and sunny not to windy. Where it is not to quiet etc.

    10. once a week. just the bottom part where she poops and the whole cage, 2 times an year.

11.a very well tooken care bird lives around 10-15 years!!

    12. no, just let them fly around or put them in a box or seomthing

    13. nope.. well if your bidgue is trained well, i guess you could get it a gym with toys etc. Insteead of it's "house" 9cage)

    14. Other things, good waterbottle, try to change daily if not it's okay. ummmm for bedding, you can get newpaper... yeah..

    GOOD LUCK LOL

    this tooka long time o.o

  3. parakeets suck...sorry....get a real pet...like a dog, or cat, or a hamster??

  4. Congrats on getting a Parakeet. They're wonderful pets. (:

Parakeets can cost anywhere from ten to fifty dollars. At the PetSmart in my area, they cost twenty one dollars. Fairly cheap for a long time friend.

You should only get a second Parakeet IF you plan on keeping them untame. If you get a single Parakeet, it will bond to you. If you get two, chances are that they will ignore you flat out, but it's still fun to watch them preen and play with eachother.

Parakeets need a consistent diet. They should be mainly fed seed, I use Egg-Cite. It has extra protein in it because it has bits of egg. I highly recommend it. But of course, you also need to feed them fruits and veggies on a daily basis. At first, they will be very reluctant to try it. Just put a piece of it in their food dish, and wait. You should take the fruit out after four hours to prevent bacterial growth. Keep in mind that it can take a few days, weeks, months, or even years to get your keet to try it, but never give up. Fruits and vegs are an essential part of his diet.

Get the largest cage you can afford. Possibly as large or larger than 30x30x30. Budgies need all the space they can get. If you want a happy bird, you need a big cage. I got a really nice one from PetSmart for 65 dollars. NEVER get the starter kits as they are MUCH too small for keets to live in. They could die from lack of space.

Keets love toys. They're highly social and they need them. You should get six. Put two or three in the cage and rotate them every week. They get bored easily.

Vets can cost a lot, depending on the reason you're there. Your best bet is to contact your local avian vet to see the prices. Yes, you need an avian vet. Try your best to find one.

Everything overall costs you around one hundred dollars to one hundred and thirty dollars. The cage is the priciest factor.

Food cost anywhere from five to ten dollars. Egg-cite is eight dollars and it comes in a two pound bag. It lasts you two weeks.

You need to change the food and water ever day. And make sure to blow off the husks from the seed. The birds don't eat the seed whole, just the meat inside of it. Blow the husks away gently so your keet won't starve to death. You should try to bathe them every day to every other day. They love water. (: You should play with them for at least one and a half hour a day, or at least them out of their cage for that long. They need the exercise.

Make sure you put the cage away from any drafts, out of the kitchen, out of the bathroom, and away from ANY type of spray or chemical. That includes sprays like Febreeze, Glad, Incense sticks, strong smelling potpourri, and bug spray. Exposure to those can kill them instantly. Yes, cover the cage at night. In the wild, Keets sleep in tree holes, so covering the cage makes them feel more safe and it keeps out the drafts. They should go to sleep when the sun starts to set, and they should awake when the sun rises.

You should clean the cage ever three or four days. Keets don't have a smell, it's the cages that do if they aren't clean.

No, you actually don't need an extra cage. Just put them in an enclosed room to enjoy themselves while you clean.

You don't need a playpen, but it is recommended if you don't have a lot of time to spare for the bird.

You should also get cuttlebone. It's essential to them. Do not get rope, sandpaper, or cement perches. They can be very dangerous. Get perches of different sizes. They need to exercise their feet.

And now I believe you're set! Best of luck!

  5. Your local petstore should have info on all that you need,

    1) depends on where you are getting them, usually around $30 though

    2) I had 2 parakeets and one died and the living one is just find by herself... so they like company but it's not necessary (2 birds=more mess+more noise)

    3) feed them small bird food... the food will have a label on it that says what birds it is for

    4) not too terribly big, big enough for them to fit in, they don't fly but they like to hop around, usually $30-$50 depending on how fancy the cage is

    5) make sure you have something for their beak so it doesn't grow to long and keep them from eating, they like colorful things and toys are cheap so just grab enough to decorate the cage with basically (they like mirrors too)

    6) I have never had to take my parakeets to the vet, you could call your local vet and price it out though

    7) overall start a list of what you need and either go to your petstore or go online and look around and get a rough estimate of what you need

8)food isn't too bad, around $10, but it lasts a while

9)feed them when their food gets empty, if you have two birds they will clean each other, play with them all the time to get them social!! (males tend to be friendlier than femals, fyi)

10)put the cage in a room where you are the most, that way they see you.  if your bird chirps a lot at night/in the early morning i would cover it, my bird doesn't so i don't cover her cage

11)clean the cage weekly (you'll see when you need to)

    12) 5-7 years... 10 if you're lucky, 15 max

13)you don't have to get an extra cage.. most cages come where the bottom comes off so you can just set the top part on a counter (i put newspaper under my birdcage b/c she poos while i'm cleaning) and then clean the bottom... the top stays pretty clean

14)you do not have to get a playpen

    15) make sure you have that thing i was talking about earlier for them to help keep their beak trimmed... also they have things you can put on the posts where they stand to help trim their nails, they like company so if you don't have another bird get a "cuddle buddy" you'll find them at the pet store, they are usually just soft fabrics that are propped up that the bird can lean against

a website that has a ton of info: http://www.wavian.com/keet/keetfaq.html

    hope this helped!!

PS Petco online has %10 off a lot of bird stuff right now, check it out~ http://www.petco.com/petco_Page_PC_birdh...

  6. i just got 2 parakeets about a week ago so

they cost 20 or more but not more than 40

yes definitely i got one at first but it seemed so lonely so i just had to get another one

at wal mart they have premium gourmet parakeet food and if you only have two birds it will last you at least 8 months

i am not very sure about how big the cage is or how much it cost but my estimate would be about uh 45 dollars and you want a cage big enough that they can fly a little bit and jump aroung an what not

it depends on the age if they are young i would get a ladder swing mirror bath and house if it is old maybe a house bath swing and mirror

the price on the vet really depends on where you go  but if you are buying a parakeet from say pet smart it should already be taken care of

it depends on where you shop i would say overall throughout the birds life time about 200 dollars which is alot cheaper than a dog

play with them about twice a day for about 10 mins. and remember that they have small hearts and if there feet get hot it is time to put them back in the cage um bathing them i would say three times a week feeding them depends on how much they eat and drink once you see that the feeders are getting low just refill them

i would put the cage up off of the ground and somewhere where you c an see it but it isnt disturbed um i put a cover over the cage at night because one they cant see in the dark anyway an 2 because in the morning once they see light they will be as loud as your alarm clock

i clean my cage once a month

they live around 15 to 20 yrs.

once you buy them i got a card board box for the ride home that the ppl at petsmart gave me and i just use that but if you have the extra money go for buying the cage

i didnt it depends on how hyper your birds are

mite spary lice spray um cuddle bone uh vitamins just hygiene stuff
