  1. The plane itself is checked by a vast team of people -

First, the cabin is cleared of all equipment from the previous flight, including earphones, food etc.

The plane, having landed, is connected to an APU (Auxilliary Power Supply), to ensure emergency power to the plane is available. The plane is also refuelled whilst on the ground.

The Landing gear, that is the wheels, are checked by ground crew before flight, as well as having the baggage loading supervised by several workers.

Once the pilots enter the cockpit, the perform their pre-flight checks - whether the controls are free and working, that the correct amounts of fuel are onboard, and that the cabin is cleared to pressurise (as the plane's internal air conditions must be at a suitable pressure to allow the passengers to breathe normally).

The communication radios are checked, and having recieved vectors from Air Traffic Control, the plane is ready for flight. Bon Voyage!

  2. You walk on and sit down then wait for it to take off. Its not complicated!

  3. Those are two different questions, and it's not clear what you mean by "set up the plane."

To answer the first (and I'm assuming you're asking about the process of going through the airport):

If you haven't checked in and printed your boarding pass online (which is recommended), go to the airline desk to get your boarding pass and check your luggage.

Go through the security line (keep your ID and boarding pass available), put your carry on, coat, shoes, etc. in the bins that go through the x-ray machine.  Walk through the arch.  You may be pulled aside for an additional wand search.

Gather your stuff, look on the big screen for your departure gate, go to the gate.  They will board by calling the section or number that is on your boarding pass.  Walk onto the plane, find your seat, stash your bag and sit down.
