  1. Regulation tables must be exactly half as wide as they are long. From memory I think this is a bed size of 100.75" long x 56.75" wide on an eight foot home table with an playing surface of 88” x 44” measured between facing rails and this fits a room size of 17' 4" x 13' 11".

For a 3.5 x 7’bar size table in a room size  of 16' 8" x 13' 6" you can scale this down to a playing surface of 39.5" x 79" with a bed size of 90.45” long x 45.22”wide. Since there is not that much difference in sizes I included room sizes needed to provide an option to decide on the larger home table

Or you can look for a full set of plans for building a seven foot table. Such plans are available out there. There is a website for exactly this building a pool table project and it is http://www.pooltableplans.com/ but I think there is a charge for the plans here etc. Also there is a tutorial for building tables at BestBilliards, http://www.bestbilliard.com/resources/bu...

  2. since the other gentleman has given you the links I would have offered, I won't repeat, I will add that, if you're going to be building your own, and using slate, if you order the slate, you can order it pre-drilled.  I'd recommend getting a backed slate so that you can staple the cloth on rather than having to use a glue type application.  For the backing, and for under the rails where you're going to be doing the stapling, use a softer wood, like fir or poplar.  You can also order rails if you like, there are plenty of compenies out there that will sell you the slate and the rails, and that will take a lot of the pressure off you, you don't have to worry about dimensions, they'll already be right.  If this is your first attempt, I'd also recommend doing it this way, the slate and rails will be matched, the daimonds will be inlaid for you and the holes for the pockets will be drilled for proper spacing.  Also, the cushion will be attached to the rail.  This can save you a lot of time AND a lot of headaches.

    Good luck,

    -Michael
