I am an student who has transferred to Los Angeles, California and I need public assistance or food stamps until I find work. Does anyone have a solution to my problem?

  2. If you are a full time student you are only eligible to food stamps if you are working 20 hours per week, disabled, or approved for federal work study(no matter how many hours). If you are only going to school part time you can be eligible for 3 months. Call 411 and ask for the Department of Social Services office closest to your zip code or just ask for any in your city, call that office, give them your zip code and they will give you the closest one. Take with you ID, SSA card, award letter for loans, work study, etc, paystubs, something with your address, its not required but some offices will overstep their authority and request without reason your bank statement, rent receipts, utility bills and car registration. Don't worry if you own a car it is exempt but you won't be eligible if you have more than $2000 in other resources like money in the money and stocks, etc. I hope I answered your questions.
