  1. as much as it weighs, un less u use a leaver or pulley. it will be less.

  2. If the thrust equals the weight of the unit, then the unit "floats" where you first set it. That is if you leave it on the floor, it will be on the floor, but not exerting any weight on the surface of the floor. If you leave it 1 meter up in the air, it will float 1 meter up in the air (assuming that the contraption is well balanced). Any further thrust, the object starts accelerating in the direction opposite of the thrust. More the difference between the thrust and its weight, the faster it accelerates.

The choice is yours. (I did not consider the drag forces)

  3. if your object weighs 500 lbs, then you would need at least 500.0001 lbs of force to lift it off the ground.  Of course, with just +.0001 lbs of thrust, it may take a week or two to see any results.

If you are using a helicopter to lift this object, then you will  need enough thrust for the helicopter to lift its own weight plus the weight of the object.

  4. Well, the simple answer is: 1lb more than the all-up weight of the aircraft.

Once the upward force (lift: for aircraft; thrust for rockets; displacement for balloons and assorted airships) exceeds the downward force (gravity acting on mass) the body will go up.

Of course it's better to a have a lot more than 1lb of lift available but in absolute terms that is all one needs.

  5. the amount of force you need to use is equal to its mass which is its weight multiplied by the force of gravity and you get a Newton (unit) which is the force required.... so

    and box weighing 100 pounds

    100lbx9.8m/s=980 N

Therefore its 980 newtons of force to lift it

  6. Thrust must be > weight

    Thats the only rule.

  7. You just need more thrust than the weight.
