  1. You don't really need to check the manual transmission fluid but if you want to you will have to locate the fill hole bolt at the top of the transmission and remove it, there is no dip stick but the fluid should be all the way to the top and if you can stick a finger in there and feel the fluid then it's filled


  2. you'll need a large wrench.  i think 15/16 but don't remember for sure.  lie under the truck under the transmission... there are two bolts with this large head on them on the side of the transmission (it used to be drivers side on toyota trucks, but i haven't worked on one in 5 years)  the bottom one is the drain plug, leave it alone.  the top one is the check/fill plug, turn it counter clockwise and remove it.  the fluid should be almost dripping out or easily reached with the tip of your finger through the hole.  if it requires more than the tip to reach, it needs to be filled.

    they used to take gl-4 or gl-5 depending on the year, but again, i haven't worked on one in 5 years, so look it up.  the correct fluid will be in the owners manual.
