I am doing my first marathon for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society this October and I need to raise $4200.00 fast!! They only allow me to do the marathon if I raise this much money. I am thrilled to be able to raise money for this wonderful cause, although it seems like people just don't want to contribute, and I feel like I am pressuring them. Do you have any ideas about what I could do to raise the money within the time frame? My site is: http://pages.teamintraining.org/dm/nikesf08/tcopeland

I have already done candy bars, so anything else would be appreciated....Thanks!

  1. Go into a pub and get everyone to take a number and put in a fiver and then draw a number and give the winner $40 and keep the rest, make sure u inform the owner and tell people its for charity

  2. Find a local business and get them to fork over a grand in exchange for you wearing their logo on your running get up.

I'm not sure if that's against the rules, sometimes they have uniform sponsorship locked down pretty tight.

You've done the whole $ per mile pledge thing I assume.

    *******

Oooh Roadjam's Idea is top notch. just wait 'til about midnight so the patrons are good and loose.

  3. We all have problems with volunteering. I have a tax deductible charitable organization and I have to go out and find people in need of help to get other people to donate to us to help these people.

Seeing that you are in a chance to volunteer and there has been many problems there, in the country you want to help, it would be easy for you to get donations from people here in America, by channeling it through an organization that is tax deductible. This way people wont feel they are giving and not getting a benefit for giving.

I know this to be true because people will only give to my organization to help other people in other countries, most of the time, when they are sure the organization is legit.

If you want to get funds then you will have to get with a tax deductible organization like mines so that the communities here will be able to check the organization with the government and get a tax break on their donations. Then you will have to help that organization get the word out to the people so that the people will know they can give to your organization or cause through that organization, and the funds will come in. I know that the people here would pour money to you because they are always looking for ways to send money back to poor countries.

This is our website, (it is still being fixed); http://www.freewebs.com/salaam-ul-muslim...

And this is the government website where you can check that my organization and any other organization is real. http://www.irs.gov/app/pub-78/search.do?...

  4. A great way to raise significant amounts of money is to go to local businesses and have them become sponsors.  Say, for $500 they could be a "Gold" sponsor, $250 would be "silver", etc.  To make this work you would need to have visible publicity of who your sponsors are, like a program or a banner.  Many businesses have open budgets for charities, and the LLS is such a worthy cause.  I would start with businesses that would be a natural match to a marathon: sporting goods stores, shoe stores, gyms, running clubs and so forth.

For individual donations, what about a car wash for a fundraiser?  Another idea would be to sell concessions at a sporting event.  Many stadiums will let a charity run a concession stand for an event for a portion of the concession proceeds.

    Good luck and God bless.

  5. The company I work with has some options that might help with your project if you would like. Our products give you 30 days in most cases before payment is due to get the sales rolling, and we don't charge for shipping unless you need to rush the order. We have scratch & help cards, spinners, cookie dough, and more! One of our best options is a web based promo fundraiser page that doesn't cost you anything at all (ever) to set up and use. Email me back at ds_music_now@yahoo.com if you'd like a brochure! Good luck!
