  1. You won't be able to tell if it is fertile, other than an assumption based on whether a male bird was around to breed the female. BTW, it is fine to eat fertile chicken eggs and if it hasn't been set or incubated, there is no chicken inside. (Just the potential for one)

After it has been set on or incubated for a while, you will be able to tell by candling the egg.  This might vary by the type of bird, but in poultry, you can start to see some growth after 3 days.  See the attached site for photos/instructions.

  2. I am pretty sure there is no way to tell right when it is laid. Wait about 3-6 weeks or so and see if it hatches. If it doesn't, then obviously it is not fertile. Has your bird found a mate? Because that is the only way to have a fertile egg. The male fertilizes the eggs and the female lays them. :]

So be patient and see what happens!

    Best of luck!

  3. you could wait 5-7 days and shine a lite on it if you see a y*d vein in it it is fertile then before it  will hatch it will look like very dark in the egg

  4. There are a couple ways to know..

1.) If there is a male with the bird/fowl. There can be one wiht them and they may have fertile eggs up to a month after mating.

2.) If they are not damaged or have been seting out for a while. If they have been out for a period of time they can become dead if yo try to hatch them.

3.) If you candle them. candle them at day 5-8 of incubation. If you see blood vessel/veins and a lil figure than its fertile. If you see just yould and nothing else than its not fertile.

There is no way to tell if they are fertile when layed. They need to be incubated in order to tell for sure

  5. This process should be done twice during incubation.

    1. At 3 or 4 days of incubation.

    2. At 15 or 16 days of incubation.

1.Take a box or a can and cut a hole in it about the size of a quarter.

    2. Place the egg on the hole.

    3. Shine a heavy source of light from the bottom, a flashlight, lamp, ect.

    4. Look for cloudy spots on the egg indicating a developing fetus.

  6. I know this because a friend of mine does it. You take the eggs and put them in a tub of water and let them sit for a while if they float they're fertile but if you want to continue to see if they're growing weigh them daily, if they weigh more, they're growing.

Quick Thing: Just because it sinks doesn't mean it's not fertile it sometimes means its too fresh to tell.
