  1. There is a David Jacobs living with an Adams family in the 1870 census, but no Jeannette listed with the family.

There is a Charles Jacobs, age 10, in the 1910 census with mother Hennetta Jacobs in Goose Creek SC.

  2. Your immediate need is to identify a location (ie county or city), in order to look at census records.  I did a fast check in ancestry.com, and don't find either David or Jeanette anywhere.  Your census options, of course, will be limited to 1870 or 1880 for David, and mainly that you need to know the county.  I have found issues with census indexes.  You might need to look at every page in the county, but IF he lived.. the idea is that he is probably close to his son.

Once you know the county to search, you will have to go in depth on other local records, ie slave schedules, etc. Yes, it is not easy research, but it can happen.
