I need to know of a car that is less that 25K and gets great fuel mileage?

that has the best fuel mileage avaliable

my daily commute is less than 20 miles

and my maximum budget to get it will be 25K

Pretty good gas mileage for a midsized car that seats 5 with 96 cubic feet of passenger space.  (no, the Prius is not a compact car as many people thought.)

If you only drive 20 miles a day, mileage isn't all that important.  Anything in the 20-30 MPG range will burn one gallon or less per day - that's $3 to $4 a day at present rates.  If money is that tight, get a used car.  You will save on capital expense, loan payments, and insurance instead.
