    *environmental print - what toddler doesn't recognize the golden arches?

    * rhyming - 2's like to hear it; 3's begin to get it

    * letter recognition - sometimes starts with 2's, but usually with 3's and starts with the first letter in their own names

    *initial sounds - starts with 3's and goes on into 4's and even 5's

    *word families - emphasis starts in K

  3. Building vocab depends on the enviroment in which the child is in. They should start with letter recognition and sounds. Then rhyming then word families. With enviromental print, I think that matters on what the symbol is because if it is McDonalds or Burger King kids tend to know those rather early. I just happen to be tutoring a 5 year old that is learning alot of this.
