We had a pool above grownd but was very lumpy and some holes under it. Well this time i want to do it right. I need to know how can i go about to making a perfect flatten ground so my pool will sit flawlessly with no bumps and holes under it. I have sement on a 90 degree angle and grass on the other 90 degree. I've removed some grass but i still need to flatten the area where my pool will sit. I know that i have to dig below the cement walkway and remove the soil. I don't know just how much deep should i dig? Please help thank you.

  1. 1. wet the grass. 2. get a spade and dig up the lumps. 3. get a steam roller and flatten it completely. 4. then get grass rolls and roll them down then water for 1 month everyday!! that's what i did and it worked fine.

  2. I have a above ground pool and all i did was to take up turf to the size i needed for pool. Then used a bed of compressed sand. Why do u have to dig down if it a above ground pool, just take up all you need, if you have kids get them to stamp down earth with small side steps and use sand for for bedding liner. You could use a garden roller to flatten. hope this helps.

  3. This is simple and it works fine.

Order some red sand (bank run sand) this type sand has a little dirt in it so it compacts very well. Call a gravel pit for this stuff, or have it delivered by a small excavation company, they usually have the equipment to do this.

Spread it out as even as you can about 8" thick. Now take a 4' level and duct tape it to a 12' straight 2" x4". Have a couple friends help you drag this 2" x 4" across the sand skimming off the excess - tape level to 1 end of 2" x4" so one of you can keep 2" x4" level as you screed the sand.

Now take a hand tamper and tamp it down. Spread some more sand out 1" -2" and make one more pass with 2" x 4" - do not need to tamp it this time. Water pressure will flatten out any footprints etc,.

You really don't need to even remove grass - it will decay under the sand. Just make sure there are no sticks or sharp stones on ground prior to spreading the sand. I would think 3-4 tons of sand would be enough.
