  1. at 16 yrs of age you DO NOT need partental or guardian sign off you just need 100 points identification - birth certificate, passport, medicare card (applicable to all 4 major banks). assuming you are a student you will not be charged account keeping fee so you save about $5 a month.

you can open either cheque account or savings account be careful banks usually charge a fee per cheque you write so be sure to ask them about fees first.

in this day n age however most people don't accept personal cheques you will be fine with a savings account.

  2. i doubt any bank will let you do that without parents consent. Or proof of amancipation. Just ask your parents. But most likely they wont do it.

Government, Laws, Banks, Credit Cards, Etc all set the age for these at 18 because younger than that, are just too irresponsible. Even 18-27 are too irresponsible. But definatly a 16 year old with a debit card, that has bad news written all over it. Lots of over drafts.

Some parents trust their children enough to co-sign on an account for them, but most of the time it turns bad. Kids dont understand that money has to be in a bank account to use a debit card, then when they over draft, it is also reflected on the parents because their name is on the account.

Just wait, you only have two more years before you can go out and start ruining your credit.

  3. Any bank will let you open a checking account. Call or visit a local bank, and they will walk you through the process!

  4. You can't open a checking account by yourself ---- you must be 18 unless you have your parents/guardian on the account with you

  5. most banks will let you at almost any age... but seeing that youre already 16, it shouldn't be a problem at any bank.

  6. Hi, most bank would let u open a checking account, but I think u should open one in bank of america because they have sum great student plan in there.

  7. This Depends on your status, If you are an imacipated minor you can open one using your legal papers, or should be able to.  Savings accounts are always an option, minors can open those, or your parents co-signing or another adult should allow you to open one.  Good Luck!!!

  8. FOR MY DAD IT DEPENDS ON THE KID. TODAY I GOT THE CHASE HIGH SCHOOL CHECKING ACCOUNT FOR THOSE 13-17. IT IS LINKED TO A PARENTS ACCOUNT. MY PACKAGE COMES WITH A VISA CHECK CARD. THERE ARE NO SERVICE FEES. ALL THE RULES APPLY WITH THIS ACCOUNT EXCEPT IF YOU OVERDRAFT IT IS TAKEN FROM YOUR PARENTS. SO BE CAREFUL. IT CONVERTS TO A FREE CHECKING ACCOUNT WHEN YOU TURN 19.
