I need to know what kind of shoes to buy for an adrenaline filled winter trip to New Zealand.?

I am from Florida and am getting great advice on how to dress (great socks/water proof gear), but I am very in need of shoe advice. I want to buy something I will use again (of course I want to stay fashionable as well). I don't mind buying some cute designer snow shoes but are these good? Any hiking would be light day hiking. Please don't tell me Uggs (ukk)! Someone recommended wellies with a fleece inset (like Hunters). I have definatly needed these in the past, sloshing around London and NYC. Any additional advice concerning jackets(specific brands) to wear if I end up sking are super appreciated. Thanks!
