Question:

I need to know what my rights are after being detained at the airport?

I had something in my purse (by accident that I forgot to take out), I got stopped at security, they called the police, took my statement and then said that they will be sending my information to Ottawa. What does this mean? Am I flagged now in their systems? Will I be searched everytime I fly? Is there an Ombudsman that I can contact to clear my name?? It was an honest mistake. Any advice or help would be appreciated!

  1. I'm an airport security officer in england so cant vouch for canada/america but if it was prohibited ie not illegal but not allowed(ie kitchen knife) then there would be no action, if it was an illegal object/substance ie drugs indecent images of children etc, then it would be passed on to appropriate authorities ie customs, immigration, police and kept on file

  2.        Under    the     USA    Patriot    act     you    have    no    rights     and    since    you    broke    the    law   by    attempting  to   pass    a     prohibited    item,    through    security    then   you   will   be    flagged    in    the   system.    In    addition    the    next    time    you    fly    expect     to    be    thouroughly    searched   by   both   a    pat   down    and   what   ever    else    they   decide   to    do.     Also    this    will   be    noted    in    your    FBI    file    so   it's    now    a    matter   of    permanent   record   the   best    course    of    action,    would   be   to   go    to    www.tsa.gov   where    you    can    find   a   list   of    prohibited   items    and    I   suggest    that   you   strictly   adhere   to   it.

  3. You have no rights.  Do not act like an idiot and you will not be treated like one

  4. You have the right to remain silent.
