While driving home from work one day, my 95 Eclipse 4G63 motor's timing belt slipped off and, according to an experienced mechanic, all 16 valves bent. Here's my question: What parts do I need to obtain to fix my car? I would like to avoid just replacing the motor all together as I figured this would be a good opportunity to replace the stock parts with better, more efficient parts to increase performance. I would also like to know what manufacturers out there sell the best parts for this particular application. Please help me!

  1. the valves and pistons (most likely) will have to be replaced.

You must have been really revving it for all sixteen valves to be bent.

Which, likely means that there other problems internal to the engine.  Possible items: connecting rods, crank (may require replacement, regrind, or just polishing), bearings (cam, crank), oil pump (if any debris got caught in it), head.

Basically, you need to tear down the engine completely, examining things as you go.

You realize that even a basic rebuild is going to cost more than the book value of the car.

  2. A DOHC engine will commonly bend all valves when a timing belt breaks, some do this because the valves come in contact with the piston, and some contact the valves opposite them, so a head rebuild may be all you need, It really depends on what you find when you pull the head, if the pistons show impact marks or valve heads broke off, the lower end may have been damaged also. As any 4 cyl engine is concerned, two pistons are always up at the same time, so checking for bent rods is easy, at TDC, the two pistons that are up should be at the same height, if any variation is detected,, you have bent a rod. Bearing damage and piston problems require dis assembly, and careful measurement.
