  1. The neighbor should be responsible for providing what is needed for their child, not you.  Just have the parent write a schedule and let her tell you what you need to do.

  2. Really small kids like that don't have much of an attention span, so you can try doing arts and crafts but I don't think she'll stick with it very long. Play-Doh is popular with kids of all ages, and pretty cheap and easy to make at home.

Print some pictures off the net like from http://www.google.ca/search?q=printable+... and let her choose some pictures to do. My niece was HUGE into dolphins and unicorns when she was little, so I do recommend those especially.

At snack time, let her do most of the work arranging the snacks on the plate, putting peanut butter on the crackers (or whatever) after you do any of the necessary cutting. At that age they tend to have everything done for them and they really like doing it themselves for once. They're also really slow and meticulous, so that should kill some time.

Get her to show you around and give you the grand tour of her stuff. Ask if she wants to play with the toys or be read a story. With a story book the kids know them by heart, so even if she can't read you can ask her what's next, then read it aloud.

Her parents probably have some Sponge Bob and Blue's Clues DVDs that you guys can chill out with. I don't know about Sponge Bob but Blue's Clues is interactive and you two can solve the puzzles together.

If they live near a park, every kid loves the jungle gym. You can play I-Spy on the way there, look at bugs, make little bouquets from shrubbery, that kind of thing.

If you feel like getting educational, it's never too early to start learning your letters, numbers, and animals. You could teach her how to write her name if she doesn't know already.

Spending time together will come more easily as you both become more familiar and learn to relax in each other's company. You won't feel this much pressure to be "on" and entertaining every single minute, so take this as an opportunity to figure out what she's all about.

    Have fun!
