I'm new to the whole Scooter thing and this one has caught my eye, but i can't find any reviews on it or any other information other than what's listed on the website. Does this have pedals or is it the the kind where you accelerate and brake on the handle bars. Does anyone have this or know how to drive it or have any information on it whatsoever? Also why is it a "moped" and not a "scooter" what's the difference?

  1. The most important part of getting a scooter or a motorcycle is learning how to ride.  Contact the Motorcycle Safety Foundation at http://www.msf-usa.org and look into training in your area.  I started riding almost 30 years ago and took both the basic and advanced courses.  After an absence, I'm back into riding, on a Honda Reflex, and I'll be looking into a refresher course.  My 250cc Reflex is a lot less powerful than my old Kawasaki KZ1100, but it's still capable of 80mph.  I figure training beats road rash any day.  And don't forget to wear a helmet, gloves, and suitable protective clothing.  Unless you have a desire to resemble steak tartare.

  2. Hey you found a purple one!

  3. First, all motorcycles are required to have the clutch on the left (if they use a clutch), gas on the right, brakes on the right hand and foot (with exemptions for some scooters) shift lever at the left foot (if used).

So if you learn to ride a motorcycle, you can ride anything, without a great deal of retraining.

Scooter are almost always shiftless/ Constantly Variable Transmission autos.  Mopeds are not so often automatic, because the drive chain is particularly efficient, at transferring power, as opposed to the belt drive common on larger scooters. You can imagine with only 50cc, how efficient power transmittal would be important.

It may be required to have pedals in some states, to be considered a moped.

Using pedals pretty much guarantees! that the controls will be on the handlebars, not someplace else.

A moped is generally defined as a 50cc or less two wheeled form of transport, it may (or may not) be required to have pedals.  Generally the speed is around 35 mph or it may be required to be even lower (30, 20?).  A MOPED is defined by law, and every state has different laws.

Whats the difference between a scooter and a motorcycle, as long as you are asking questions?

  4. The scooter you are looking at states that it has a CVT transmission so it will just be twist and go.  You really arnt going to have to do anything to learn how to ride that scooter.  You basically just sit on it... the ride handlebar grip will twist to give it throttle and you never have to worry about shifting.  The left brake is for the rear wheel and the right brake lever is for the front.  Thats pretty much it... very very easy to ride.  Enjoy!

Oh may I also suggest the Kymco Super 8 150?

Kymco is a VERY reputable company and you would have NO problems with the scooter... parts are also readily available and easily attainable.  It also has a style similar to what you like.  It is a bit more expensive than the one you have picked out but it will be cheaper in the long run.
