I need to learn to cook and make my own meals, but I really don't like cooking...?

There are a few reasons I don't like to cook.

a. Bugs. I have lived in 2 different apartment and both have bug/ants problems as soon as I bring food in. And I don't like to keep fresh fruit around because of gnats.

b. I like to eat what I am in the mood for. When you cook, you cook what is in your cabinets. If you want sweet tea to drink, but you only have kool-aid then your out-of-luck.

c. When I do cook, I have left-overs. Then the left-overs don't get eaten and they go bad.

d. It just never seems to taste as good as something from a restaurant or take-out place. I love Chinese food, and nothing from the grocery store ever tastes the same as from the Chinese take-out place.

f. I can't plan a menu and stick to it. Some of these goes back to b. If I planned to make pasta, chances are that's not what I will end up wanting.

g. Too many things go bad. I live alone and I can't even buy a half-gallon of milk because it goes bad too quickly, same with a loaf of bread.

  1. Instead of buying milk buy long life soy or long life milk there in the same Isle. Freeze your bread it doesn't take long to defrost.

If you can put left overs in a freezable container and freeze them and then heat them up for lunch, you could even mix and match them. Plan to eat pasta on nights when you want something more full to eat like after a real busy day. Buy your fresh vegies and fruit on the day you want them and freeze the fresh vegie leftovers in freezer bags or just freeze all your vegies. Buy fruit that last a long time like apples and oranges and just store them in fridge. Keep things like melons and strawberries cut up or whole in containers in the fridge. They should last longer that way if you can't buy them fresh.

For the ants you can buy Ant bait. It's a little container that you put on the floor and the ants eat the bait and take it back to there home.  You can buy one for cockroaches to. Take food with you when you go out make it in a pretty bento (Japanese box lunch) so you won't have to buy food.

Plan a few meals you would like to eat for the week but don't plan the exact day have one or two more choices for that day.

And then use the one you didn't choose on the next day.

Stop eating out a lot and after a while it won't taste as good as home. Trust me I used to eat out like 3-4 days a week and now I only eat out once to twice a week and it doesn't taste as good as what I eat at home.

Don't eat out for a week then give your self a reward for not eating out!

    Recipe Ideas?

Grab a can of Indian sauce and make a stir fry or follow there directions and make a meal out of there recipe on the back of the can. Instant Indian food!

Use leftover rice and wack it into a fry pan with some corn and peas and make a fried rice! Use leftovers of this for lunch the next day it tastes great cold!

Cut up some potatoes in half and add some cheese on top and bake in the oven. Add some boiled or microwaved vegies and you got a meal!

Corn on the comb with some melted cheese? Easy!

Red kidney bean taco's are simple! Just boil some kidney beans with a tin of crushed tomatoes and whatever spices you like! Then grab some tacos and fill it with lettuce capsicums and sour cream and avocados and you got a pretty good meal! You could do the same thing for burritos!

Cook foods that aren't from your country and it will be like eating out! Try learning to cook simple Mexican food, Thai, Indian or even Japanese or Malaysian! Go for it there are some great recipes on the internet!

Try making your own sushi! You can buy a sushi kit at the supermarket and then buy whatever fillings you want to put in side the rice!

Try new foods every week at home that way you won't want to eat out!

  2. K here's what I do: Go grocery shopping hungry, even tho they say not to. Then you'll get what you really want. Get pastas, cereals, whatever else and store them in your freezer (wont have to worry bout bugs) get your meats (chicken...whatever...) and store them in the freezer as well, with the heat all you gotta do is take them out and leave them by a window and they'll be thawed in no time. Try some new recipes that will make you eager to eat them- try youtube- I like the orange chicken videos- because seeing them will make you want it and you'll have pictures to remind you how bad you want it so it'll be harder to change your mind. I don't know what to tell you bout the bread and milk, because I'm the same way.  GOOD LUCK- I know how you feel
