7 hours and 50 minutes

he is a chihuahua mix and can last up to 10 hours without going to the bathroom, if that matters. 17 months of age.

there is no other solution because he is terrible to the home when no one is there to watch over him.

i wanted to know if this was too long

  1. Is the kennel long enough for him to use the bathroom but still have an area to sleep ?  Water and food should be avail. if longer than 7 hours ( at night -no )

Also with our inside doggies - we use a radio/stereo that lets them know we are still here but not for a few hours!

  2. Its a little inadvisable.

If you absolutely have to leave him for that long, make sure he's eaten three hours before you leave, also, make sure he has plenty of exercise before you leave. He needs to have relieved himself BEFORE going into the crate.

Leave him a water dish in his crate thats filled with ice cubes (so he won't drink it all at once, and it will help with his bladder). And make sure to leave a toy inside of the crate.

  3. It's fine, as long as you make sure to walk him and stuff before you send him to his crate.

Also, you should try giving him a treat-dispensing toy, something like a Kong. They're fun and rewarding for the dog, and will keep him entertained for a while, depending on what kind you get, and what you stuff it with.

  4. it's fine as long as you don't do it all the time.  Just give him a toy, make sure he has plenty of water, and a nice towel/rug to lay on.  He'll be fine.

It would not be nice to do that to a dog on a daily basis, however if you need to do it ever once in a while don't worry about it.  He'll still love you, and it won't hurt him a bit.

    Hope that helped!!
